Reflexology associations are not the anatomical locations of organs or acupuncture points. This map is not a treatment guide; a healing effect on the corresponding organs has not been proven.
How to do it
Before
- Unless a step says otherwise, the person lies face down with the back and feet uncovered and gets comfortable. p. 9
Each step
- Go through the steps in order. The icons show where each oil goes. p. 9–10
- Neck and shoulders: 3–4 drops. Nose: bring your hand to the person’s nose so they breathe the aroma. Feet: rub what is left on your hands into the soles. p. 11
- Spine: 4–6 drops along the spine over the whole back, in small clockwise circles from the lower back up to the base of the skull. p. 9, 11
- C: carrier oil over the back before the stronger oils. Clove, oregano and thyme are marked “dilute” for sensitive skin. p. 7, 9
- Hand (roller oils): roll 3 times across your palm, let the person breathe from your hands, spread it over the back, then the rest onto the feet. p. 12
- Heart or liver: 2–3 drops on that area by hand, then breathe from the hands. p. 11
- Wipe any oil left on your hands before the next step. p. 12
How much and how often
- Small children and people over 50: 2–3 drops of each oil instead of 4–6. p. 11
- The book suggests 2–3 times a month as a routine; 2–3 times a week for 1–2 weeks when more is wanted, then back to 2–3 times a month. p. 11
- Can’t reach the back? Do the feet only. p. 10
After (optional)
- Cover the body with a sheet or towel and rest for 10–15 minutes. A warm shower, bath or sauna afterwards — the thermometer mark on a protocol. p. 10
- A warm damp towel over the face for 10–15 minutes — except Neurological, Hormone Balance, Forgiveness and Emotional. If anything burns or feels uncomfortable, add a layer of carrier oil there. p. 10
- Drink plenty of water that day: at least 600 ml within an hour after — both the person and whoever applies the oils. p. 10
Safety
- Let the oil drip from the bottle; don’t touch the dropper to the skin. Never in the eyes or directly into the ears. Carrier oil first for oils labelled “sensitive” or “dilute”. p. 7
- Take an oil internally only if its bottle has a Supplement Facts label. Store bottles away from sun and heat. p. 7
- Pregnant or under a doctor’s care: ask your physician first. Follow each product label. Oil Smart, p. 8
